Portrait of Thom "steam punk"

We have two more sessions with Thom but at this stage in the drawing any further application will be fine tuning and subtle changes. So any further updates won't be of value because it will be difficult to see any change, so this is pretty much the final product.

Underpainting

My first pass on the canvas. I am going to apply the paint in a glazing method. I started with a value 7 earth brown and now am in the process of applying the light with white and the shadows with more opaque versions of the ground color. Progress to follow.

2 weeks later

After being away from this for two weeks, there was a lot of corrections to be done. There is still a lot of work in the drawing and I have to group the values.

This is the painting I am currently doing a copy of. One of the things that is unique about this painting is that it is Rubens being powerful on a small scale with only two figures. I have taken the cartoon as far as I feel is necessary and I am going to transfer it to a prepared bored. Progress to follow..

Rubens Copy (Cartoon)

Starting the cartoon for my copy of a Rubens painting. Your typical block in so far. Focusing on large proportions and construct format, and starting to lay down some value to get an understanding of plane and mass. Already see a list of errors that will provide an entry point for tomorrows work.
